You probably won't believe me, but I did an online survey on several ideas for videogames.

One is Super Mario Oddyssey 2, and one is a new sonic game set in the "Starfall islands". (There are several other name prototypes).

Oddyssey 2 has Luigi.

I went through a half dozen sonic concepts and 2 or 3 for Mario.

The sonic game is on Switch don't know if it's a multiplat or exclusive

Odyssey has 20 locations.

To be honest I'm risking a lawsuit posting this.

I have 38 pictures, but here's a cut of one I made with ShareX

There's no way Nintendo gonna put that much effort to make game that already guaranteed 5+ millions sales. Even if Oddyssey 2 is happening, it will be lazy sequel that just recycle every assets from previous game like what they did with Galaxy 2

They're not going to post actual screenshots from a game that's in pre/early development. I've done similar surveys before and they usually use concept art to familiarize the survey taker with the material.

Yes, that is my point. A survey wouldn't include secret pictures of an unannounced game. Surveys are used in a broad way with no intention of keeping confidentiality. Anything of actual merit would be buried behind actual NDA's and wouldn't just be a survey. Hell, if surveys meant something then the PS4 would have had backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 ages ago.

I've done plenty of video game surveys and used to be in Sony's gay little invite only club for that kind of shit back when I was in high school. Surveys don't protect confidential information and they aren't expected to, meaning they would lose a lawsuit case against you if they brought it to court since that isn't what a survey is for. Being in a survey is about the least special thing you can do for vidya.

I've actually done a bunch of surveys that show me full episodes of a tv show that isn't out yet. Those usually have some sort of watermark on them to discourage people from uploading them online.

Well if you would have stated it that way I could have replied properly. Yes, surveys can have pictures, videos, sketches, etc. However, they will not have any information in them that is not ready to be released to the public. The only time you'd see a picture is if that picture is completely useless as in just some randomly drawn concept art.

OP pushed too far when he talked about legal action. That automatically made it clear as a fake to me. If he hadn't done something that stupid then it wouldn't have been as bad. Nintendo using surveys for ideas is far fetched though considering the company loves to ignore what their consumers have to say. I don't even mean that in a butthurt kind of way either.

Yeah, the funny thing about TV shows is that the number of shows created and never aired far outweighs the number that make it. Most of the time it will only be a pilot episode, but you even get to the point where an entire season can be shot then discarded. While they would still want to protect the episodes if they can, it isn't necessarily a good sign for that show if it makes it into a survey in my opinion. It shows me they have doubts in the ability of the show to make it, which the odds are already against it to begin with.

For information to be legally protected, reasonable effort has to be put into protecting that information. The hiring process is part of that reasonable effort. On the other hand, a survey is sent out to mass number of random people. It isn't reasonable to expect that information to be kept secret, thus any information put into a survey isn't protected.
